Project Summary:

This annual workshop, held at the Charlottetown Trap & Skeet Club, reaches novice hunters island-wide. It acts as the "field day" for the Hunter Safety Program, allowing participants who successfully pass the online exam to receive their PEI hunter safety certificate. A variety of volunteers led stations to allow the students to learn safe and proper hunting techniques, as well as the fundamentals of wildlife conservation and hunting ethics.


Topics this year included:

  • Firearm safety

  • Archery Wilderness survival

  • Map and compass use

  • Duck and goose calling

  • Conservation enforcement

  • Waterfowl ID

  • Conservation and ethics


In 2019, this project engaged approximately 30 volunteers that helped educate and introduce 75 islanders to the sport of hunting.
