Project Title:

Huntley River Silt Trap 2019

Project Summary:

Fish Habitat was enhanced by removing the silt from the silt trap thus allowing the silt trap to function at removing more silt from a highly productive stream. This silt trap is only one part of this multi-year project, although an important part; CBWA in conjunction with TIE have made significant improvements to the Rix road (a serious source of sediment) in 2018 and 2019.

This trap has been re-excavated in 2012 and 2015 as it was full of silt to the point of creating a silt island in the stream. This project significantly reduces silt downstream. We also feel confident the work completed upstream of this silt trap over the last two seasons will extend the usefulness of the silt trap.
