Project Summary:

Through this project BBEMA staff restored community hiking access to the Dunk River Trail by removing downfallen and uprooted trees as a result of Hurricane Dorian. Additionally, staff conducted redd surveys to help monitor Atlantic Salmon populations within the Bradshaw, Wilmot and Dunk Rivers.

Restoring salmon or trout spawning grounds requires knowing the characteristics that make a suitable environment for fish reproduction - accurate redd counts are essential to doing more efficient restoration work. The results of these surveys will help guide restoration efforts - inform BBEMA managers of the river flows and water temperatures needed to maximize spawning habitat area.
